Raytheon is seeking experienced Hardware/Systems Engineers to join our team in maintaining the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) Common Ground System (CGS), a state-of-the-art ground station for the next generation of low earth orbiting environmental satellites. This system provides global coverage, monitor environmental conditions, collect, disseminate and process data about the Earth''s weather, atmosphere, oceans, land and near-space environment. The JPSS Hardware/Systems Engineer will perform systems engineering functions to include supporting CGS operations, baseline maintenance support and engineering guidance to the Software, Systems and Mission Support teams during the operations and maintenance of the JPSS CGS.
The Hardware System Engineer will:
Be a member of the Hardware Engineering team responsible for the reliable maintenance of the CGS
Participate in needed changes to the operational baseline in support of Mission operations
Coordinate with the Development and SEIT IPTs ensuring operationally driven changes to the baseline are properly accounted for in future system releases
Provide sub-system level technical guidance to the Software, Systems and Mission Support Teams
Work closely with Mission Support and Operations Teams to ensure continuous support to the operational system
Comply with established program System Engineering, Integration and Test processes and procedures
Apply technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques to solve problems
Ensure completion of assigned project/program milestones as directed by his/her immediate supervisor
Participate in and conduct technical and process document reviews and resolve systems engineering and integration issues
Participate in the development and review of Engineering Change Requests, to include participation in Change Management Boards at multiple program levels
Participate in technical interchange meetings with team members and other program personnel, and represent the organization in matters pertaining to his/her functional area
Participate in risk and opportunity analysis, tracking and mitigation
Ensure compliance with all company safety requirements
Required Skills:

years of technical engineering experience with a proven track record of increasing responsibilities
Demonstrated experience in systems engineering processes and techniques
Demonstrated experience with interface definition/documentation (ICD)
Demonstrated experience in conducting system engineering with a hardware focus, analytical, and problem solving activities with structured problem solving techniques
Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining working relationship with all levels of the organization, including customers, users, and other peer groups
Demonstrated experience in working in dynamic environments requiring ability to assess and prioritize tasks, managing time and resources to meet assigned deadlines
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills
Availability to travel
U.S. citizenship and ability to satisfy requirements for a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
Desired Skills:
Experience in satellite command, control and communications, security engineering, and/or network architecture
Experience and technical knowledge in satellite ground systems, including hardware, software, and communications architecture
Experience and technical knowledge in computer and storage, network, and ground hardware engineering.
Familiarity with structured analysis and design methodologies, object-oriented analysis and design methodologies
Experience in Requirements life-cycle from development and design to verification
Experience in development and maintenance of engineering documentation (OPSCON, Design and Interface Control Documents, and Operations Manuals)
Experience with the engineering change proposal processes
Experience in a satellite operations environment
Experience with conducting trade studies
Experience with the Microsoft Office tools
Qualified Six Sigma Specialist
Required Education (Including Major): BS/BA in Engineering (Aerospace, Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, Physics, Math) or equivalent experience
Training Requirement:
Selected candidate will be required to attend an extensive OJT program in Aurora, CO in order to become proficient with JPSS Program and Sustainment IPT processes and procedures. It is anticipated that the training will last approximately four (4) months due to the level of program immersion required. The scope and depth of training will be influenced by the candidates experience, skills and comprehension of required tasks.
For this four month training period it is planned that the selected candidate will be in a temporary domestic offsite assignment (TDOA) status with hotel, per diem and rental car costs paid by the company. Also, IAW Raytheon TDOA policy, the cost of one round-trip airline ticket will be provided to home location every 30 days. In addition to this home travel, for designated employees there may also be bimonthly travel to Maryland to participate in customer program management reviews.
